Story of the Day

Day 3 of the 2009 trip with Chris and Sue. We chose Deer Valley. The skiing is good and there is a high quality base lodge for Sue.

A beautiful day with clear blue skies greeted us as we started.

There are few options from Snow Park base. As usual, we took Carpenter to the top of Bald Eagle Mountain and Silver Link down to the Silver Lake area.

We managed to keep going across the flat area at Silver Lake and then Quincy Express to the top of Flagstaff mountain. Sidewinder is one of my favourite runs at Deer Valley. The gradient and curves make it a fast and interesting run, especially when the slopes are deserted.

Back up Northside Express to the top of Flagstaff Mountain, we took Bandana down to Empire Canyon in the sun.

It was cold at the top of Empire lift, but the views were magnificent. We turned right and took Supreme down to the bottom of the lift.

Up Empire for a second time, we thought about stopping got a break, but decided to take one more run. We were looking for the trail across to Lady Morgan Express, a new lift installed since our previous visit. We missed the first exit, but made the second with enough speed to avoid having to walk uphill.

By the time we got to the bottom of the lift, we were very cold. Riding Lady Morgan Express in the sun helped, but we still decided it was time for a break.
